  • Employee account administration the employer runs itself, covering member registration, tax file numbers, benefit categories, fund registration dates, exits and reconciliation reporting, with member numbers returned through SuperStream.

FAQs

What does Mercer Super do when an employer nominates it as their default fund?

Employees who do not choose their own fund and have no stapled fund get an account opened for them in the employer's Mercer Super plan. The employer submits a Member Registration Request with the employee's details, employment start date, employment status, weekly hours, occupation code and benefit category, and Mercer Super returns the member number through SuperStream. The benefit category sets the employee's insurance and contributions, and employees may be eligible for automatic cover for death including terminal illness, total and permanent disablement and, where available, income protection, depending on the plan.

How do employers pay super contributions to Mercer Super?

Mercer Super provides two SuperStream compliant clearing house platforms, Mercer Super Employer Portal and Mercer QuickSuper. Both take a contribution file extracted from a payroll system as a SuperStream Alternative File Format or contribution CSV file, or details keyed in on screen, then process the contributions and distribute them to each employee's own fund, so one payment covers every employee whatever fund they belong to. Payment is by electronic funds transfer, and Mercer QuickSuper also takes Osko. Both platforms interface with the Australian Taxation Office and give reporting and audit trails.

How does an employer join Mercer Super?

Mercer Business Super is designed for employers of all shapes and sizes, from large corporate firms with thousands of employees to small business owners. The employer join page routes applications by headcount: one form for employers with fewer than 50 employees, another for 50 or more, and a reply follows within five working days. Employers associated with a current Mercer Super employer use the contact form instead, and a sole trader with no employees joins the individual product Mercer SmartSuper.
